If you’ve ever worn a traditional athletic cup, you know the problem. The hard plastic protects you, but it can also pinch, shift around, and make you way too aware that you’re wearing a cup. That’s the problem Drake Drendel and Ryan Rodriguez wanted to fix.
The two have been friends since sixth grade. At 17, they were both varsity baseball players at different Southern California private high schools when they started working on a better option. Today, Drake is the CEO and Ryan is the CFO of DRSPORTS. The “DR” comes from their first initials, and both are now at Loyola Marymount University.
The goal was pretty simple: make a cup athletes actually want to wear. The result is the DRSPORTS Flex Cup, made with D3O®, a flexible impact-absorbing material that has been used in protective gear for more than 20 years.
So what makes D3O® different?
The smart molecules in the D3O® foam remain soft and flexible under normal conditions but instantly harden upon impact, providing unparalleled protection when you need it most.
If you wear ThighPro, this concept might sound familiar.
ThighPro uses XRD® impact-absorbing technology in its protective shorts. D3O® and XRD® are different materials with different technologies, but they have a similar goal: provide impact protection without forcing an athlete to move around in a hard, rigid piece of padding.
With ThighPro, XRD® is designed to absorb repeated impacts to the thighs while keeping the padding thin and flexible. With the DRSPORTS Flex Cup, D3O® is built into the front of the cup to help absorb impact, while the overall design allows the cup to move comfortably with your body.
Different products. Different materials. Same philosophy: protect the athlete without getting in the way of the athlete.
DRSPORTS takes that idea and puts it into a cup designed to move with you. The Flex Cup has an ergonomic shape to help it stay in place, along with breathable materials for better airflow and that’s what we like about it.
Protection only works if you actually wear it.
If your gear is uncomfortable enough that you want to take it off or leave it in the equipment bag, it’s not doing much good. DRSPORTS Flex Cup, D3O® is designed to give athletes protection without getting in the way of running, cutting, squatting, swinging or competing.
