If you have a young catcher who's serious about getting better behind the plate, The Catching Guy is bringing catching camps to cities across the country this fall, winter and spring.
Coach Todd Coburn, better known as The Catching Guy, has been teaching catchers since 2000. His camps focus on much more than just catching a baseball. Players work on the technical side of the position while also developing the strength, mobility, communication and mental skills that come with being a catcher.
Todd's been teaching catchers for more than 30 years, and he’s been running catching camps and clinics since 2000. He’s a former college and pro catcher with a master’s degree in kinesiology, and he’s basically made it his mission to help young catchers get better at a position that can be pretty complicated.
He’s also coached with Team USA and wrote The View From Behind the Mask: Everything You Need to Know About Catching and More. But really, Todd’s just a guy who loves catching and loves teaching it. That’s what The Catching Guy is all about: helping young catchers build their skills, understand the position and, maybe most importantly, feel more confident behind the plate.
The upcoming schedule includes camps across California, Texas, Kansas, Utah, Washington, Colorado, Oregon and South Dakota.
All standard camps are designed for baseball and softball catchers ages 10–16 and include nine hours of instruction over Saturday and Sunday. Training covers everything from receiving and blocking to throwing mechanics, mobility, strength, communication and the mental side of the game.

What Do Catchers Work On at a Catching Guy Camp?
One of the things that makes these camps different is that the focus isn't simply on getting more reps.
The standard camps cover:
- Stances and setups
- Receiving technique
- Blocking form
- Throwing mechanics
- Hip mobility
- Hand, wrist and forearm strength
- Core strength
- Balance and stability
- Hand-eye coordination
- Leadership
- Communication
- Toughness
- Work ethic
- Attitude
- Effort
- Controlling emotions
Catchers aren't just thrown into a group and left to figure it out. They’ll work directly with Coach Todd Coburn, his Master Coaches and the rest of the coaching staff, with plenty of focused instruction along the way. The idea is to give each catcher real feedback, more reps and a better understanding of what it takes to play the position well.
A Camp for Catchers Who Want to Get Better
Catching might be one of the toughest jobs on the field. There’s a lot going on back there, and being a good catcher takes way more than just being able to catch a ball. You’ve got to have good technique, athleticism, confidence and the ability to communicate with everyone around you.
That’s why getting some extra catching-specific instruction can make such a difference. Instead of trying to squeeze a few catching reps into a regular team practice, these camps give catchers time to really focus on their position and work on the things they might not get enough time to practice during the season.
Whether your catcher’s still working on the basics or they’re starting to think about playing at the next level, The Catching Guy has camps happening all over the country throughout the 2026–2027 season.
